My nine year old wants to be a girl?
Umm just wondering my son's special needs but not severely just like due to being born prematurely. He'll grow up live on his own like any other kid so he's just a little behind his peer like in many other ways. He's always insisted that he was a girl since he was a small toddler. He's not a toddler now and I'd think he should know better fo a long time now. I've taken him to a therapist and they said he was fine in that spectrum but I'm like he's not a toddler old enough to get a grip with reality just saying that it's something that I don't believe it is. I just want to know if anyone has dealt with that here or am I alone with that?
He's 9 years old and he knows other people think he's a boy but that doesn't seem to change his mind.
I took him to the therapist it's like everything's to go to the doctor.But I don't want him to change can't their be an alternative. The therapist always says shit I don't want to hear I mea how would they feel if their son was replaced?
He could have gender dysmorphia. Go to different therapists to get a wide range of opinions. Avoid religious groups because they will just demand that you force your son to stay a boy. If he truly believes that he should be a girl, then forcing him to live as a boy can cause a lot of problems later in life, especially at puberty. When puberty hits, his body will start changing into a man, but in his mind he will still be a woman. Just imagine what it would be like for you if your body started changing into the opposite sex, that is what it would be like for him at puberty.
If he truly has gender dysmorphia and you ignore the issue or sweep it under the rug and force him to live as a boy, it will cause a lot of problems later on. I mean, A LOT. I'm talking severe depression and suicide.
Make sure you work all of this out now before puberty hits and he is stuck being somebody he doesn't want to be.
