how to check super heat on ac units?
Take the Suction Saturation Temperature (SST) reading from your manifold gauge
Then take the Suction Line Temperature (SLT) as close to the condensing section just before the serve valve.
Take the difference between the above readings (Suction Line Temp 'minus' Gauge Saturation temp reading) = Superheat
When ambient air temperature (Outside air temperature) is 85 degrees or above the Superheat should be 8-12 degrees. Thermostatic Expansion Valves (TEV / TXV) should be set for a minimum 8-F Degrees Superheat.
