How can dogs have multi-colored fur that grows back the same way but have skin that is all 1 color?
For example, a german shepard has different color fur but not different colored skin.
The answer lies in genes. Each gene encodes for different things. Skin usually is pigmented with one color all over..considering it's an organ. Your hair has multiple genes encoding for your hair color. Some genes are turned on and off depending on the barr body (the X chromosome that doesn't work in the female) and is passed down to their progeny.
