What makes one cat have pink paw pads, and another cat have purple paw pads?
when i was very little, we tried to rescue a litter of kitten. we were instructed to rub their tiny paws often to make the pads turn from purple to pink, as though that would keep them alive or something.
however, i now own two cats -- one has mostly pink pads with some purple, and the other has exclusively purple paw pads.
so what determines the color of the paw pads? is it genetics, or is it really from the pads being rubbed or something?
Genetics. There are several cats that have lavender paw pads, like the Platinum Mink Tonkinese and the Selkirk Rex. I've never heard about rubbing paw pads to make them turn from purple to pink. My cats are both Natural Mink Tonkinese and their paw pads are chocolate brown.
