When considering the Tudor Dynasty, how would one define Royal Authority?

I've searched and I understand the meaning of Royal Authority, it's just a case of being able to explain it.

I'd say that, during the Tudor period in England, Royal Authority was pretty much vested in the person of the sovereign.

It was an age of intensely personal rule, and the monarchs of this time exerted a great deal more power than they do today.

Henry VII and Henry VIII ruled almost as autocrats, but were always careful to follow at least the outward forms of calling Parliament and allowing the Lords and Commons the appearance, if little else, of approving their measures.

Edward VI and Mary I were weaker than their father and grandfather, Edward because of his youth and the way the Council appointed by Henry VIII was quickly 'stuffed' with individuals who were more interested in pushing their own agenda (and feathering their own nests) than in carrying out the wishes of the late king, and Mary because of her obsession with turning back the clock.

Elizabeth I was an astute politician who surrounded herself with able men to advise her, and knew when to compromise and when to stand firm. She wasn't above playing the role of the helpless little woman, either. For the most part, the men who became her 'favorites' during her long reign were men of ability. Again, you see the degree of personal involvement in government exerted by the monarch.

This state of affairs continued until approximately the 1640's, when Charles I tried to rule in the absolutist way of many of the French monarchs. He lost his head, the Cromwell Protectorate was established and, when his son Charles II was restored in 1660, his personal power was greatly diminished.

It wasn't until The Glorious Revolution in the 1680's, however, that the British monarchy was put under the limits of a constitution.
